Pet Photography Project 52 Week #7 - Natural Light

I completely missed week 6 due to 2 of my kids being sick and keeping me a little busy! But I'm so excited to be back for week 7! This weeks theme is 'Natural Light', which for me I suppose is a little boring since I only use natural light! This is partly because I love the challenge of finding that 'perfect' light, but mainly because I have absolutely no idea on how to use artificial lighting so that the end result actually looks good haha

To make things a little more exciting though - it was Chesters 2nd Birthday this week! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you may have already seen the photo I'm about to share, but I thought I'd take advantage of this blog post to tell you a little more about what actually happened!

I can't actually say that I'm proud of this photo haha, Chester looks uncomfortable, the lighting wasn't great (half direct sun, half dark shadows) but it was a huge effort to get any photo at all so it'll have to do!

Chester is literally the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, he's still only a baby but he is generally a very well behaved dog with great manners who loves his people to bits. He does have some anxiety issues though, especially when his person is trying to force him to eat something that he knows he would generally not be allowed to touch!

I baked his cake using this recipe from The Brown Eyed Baker  which was easy to make but I should mention that I am not good with baking, and even less with cake decorating so it looks a bit like a pile of white meatballs haha

We headed outside with it, I took a photo of the cake with the candle lit before blowing it out and asking Chester to come and have a look (didn't want to risk him burning himself, so the lit candle was taken from the first photo and added to this one in photoshop later on).
Chester basically hated the idea - he looked at it, then looked at me, then came and laid down next to me! With some help from my partner we did manage to get him to sit next to his cake for just long enough to get this one shot but he then took off again, chasing flies and trying to make himself look busy so that we'd leave him alone LOL...
Amazingly enough, this shoot was actually worse than last years which at the time I didn't think would be possible haha, here's the link to his 1st Birthday shoot if you'd like to check it out!

All in all, this isn't a great photo - but I'm happy I got it, and I will hopefully be able to traumatize him with an ugly cake on his Birthday for many years to come ;-)

The next post in this weeks blog circle is Kelly Garin Photography in Columbia, SC!
