2016 - WHAT A YEAR! Melbourne Dog Photographer
We moved back to Victoria from Tassie in December 2015, so for quite a big part of 2016 we were still settling in. My youngest started Kindergarten, my middle child started Prep and my eldest started Grade 3 – all of them have changed so much this year, and it’s amazing to see how they are growing up and maturing. We’ve made some great new friends, we love the little school our kids go to, and our house has become our home.
Although I’ve had my photography business set up for over 18 months now, it officially took off in 2016 which has been amazing. I never would have dreamed that I could one day do something like take photos of pets as a JOB! Someone pinch me coz I’m sure I’m dreaming!
My photography has grown and developed so much this year, and every time I look at an older photo it’s a stark reminder that you really do never stop learning.
In April I started volunteering my services at Animal Aid – again, amazing that I get to hang out with different dogs and cats every week and people actually thank me for it! And not only do I get to hang out with and fall in love with new animals every week, I’m making a difference by doing so.
In 2016 I photographed at Animal Aid a grand total of 260 cats, 115 dogs, 23 rabbits, 6 guinea pigs and 1 goat! I can’t wait to continue working with Animal Aid in 2017!
I also became a member of HeARTs Speak in May this year – I’m so proud to be a member of this extraordinary organization of artists helping animals in need all over the world!
Have I mentioned that 2016 has been an amazing year?!
We adopted Alaska and Toothless in January and April respectively – they’ve been an amazing addition to our family and I can’t imagine life without them!
Chester had his 1st Birthday in February which we had a cake smash photoshoot for, I’m looking forward to trying again on his 2nd Birthday and hopefully doing a lot better - I’d love to be able to offer cake smashes to my clients!
In 2017, my business goals are to....
Start offering Birthday Cake Smash shoots.
Do model calls for a couple of specific breeds I’d love to photograph.
Make and sell a calendar for 2018.
Photograph more cats and other pets.
Source more beautiful locations to offer for photoshoots.
Partner with at least one other pet related business.
Please feel free to remind me of these during the year as I'm sure I'll forget a few of them!!
I’ve met many amazing people and even more amazing pets this year, and I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings!
